How It Works

Velashape features a revolutionary ElÕs™ combination of Bi-Polar radiofrequency (RF), Infrared Light Energy, plus Vacuum and Mechanical Massage. ElÕs is the first and only technology that simultaneously harnesses the power of bi-polar radiofrequency (RF) and optical energy. This technology overcomes the safety and procedural limitations of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and conventional lasers. The combination of modes helps to shrink fat cells, boost lymphatic drainage and circulation as well as firming and smoothing the skin by collagen production.

velashape how

Radio Frequency is a highly controllable energy heat source, works synergetic ally with optical energy. Radio Frequency treatment generates energy that penetrates the skin layers to selectively heat the skin tissue from 2 to 20mm depth. The heating caused by the RF waves result in an immediate contraction of the collagen fibers. At the same time new collagen is produced, resulting in a tighter, firmer appearance of the skin. Enables the use of light energy at a level that is safe for all skin types with no additional risk for the epidermis. It precisely targets areas preheated by optical energy, the contact cooling on the skins surface provides comfort and safety.

Infrared light is defined as the use of infrared lamps that relieve pain and increase circulation to a particular area of the body. Heats the tissue up to 3mm depth. The precise heating ensures a safe, effective and fast treatment. Heat speeds up the body’s natural process. Stimulates collagen, firms and tightens the skin helping Contouring the body.

The vacuum and specially designed rollers for the Mechanical Massage smooth out the Skin to facilitate safe and efficient heat energy delivery. The net result increases the metabolism of stored energy, increases lymphatic drainage and reduces or shrinks the size of actual fat cells and fat chambers. Also improves the removal of cellular waste and toxins.

Skin Care And Skin Concerns- Skin Care We Use

Skin Care We Use | Oily Skin | Dehydrated And Sensitive | Pigmentation | Aging

We treat all kinds of pigmentation caused from sun damaged skin, age spots, freckles, melasma, cafe-au-lait and seborrheic kereatoses with our cynosure laser device, from 1-3 sessions every 3 weeks. For better results we include skin care treatments.

Skin Care And Skin Concerns – Oily Skin, Congested And Enlarged Pores

Oily and congested skin is commonly associated with enlarged pores because of the over production of sebum that increase the pore size. Oily skin types are more prone to develop acne because of the over production of sebum but that is not the case for all skins. It is possible to have oily skin and not develop acne. Oily skin is a challenge, there is a fine balance between removing enough sebum to get rid of facial shine while not inducing skin dehydration. Many clients with oily skin are tempted to use strong detergent cleansers to remove sebum, however the intercellular lipids are also damaged yielding the appearance of dry skin. It is not possible for a cleanser to separate between sebum and intercellular lipids, thus a cleanser should be selected that minimizes barrier damage. Barrier damage is a problem created by many acne medications that contain skin irritants such as benzoyl peroxide or retinoids.

Using the right homecare products and suitable treatments help maintain a healthy skin and lessen the open pores. It is important to stress that this are solutions that help manage the appearance of a healthy skin, free of excess oil and enlarged pores but a balanced diet, exercise and drinking plenty of water will help the body from within.

At Laze away we have a great variety of treatments for oily skin types depending on severity and skin type. The therapist will be able to set a program and achieve the best possible outcome.

Recommended Treatments

Detoxifying Medi-facial- a facial that delivers a very light concentration of Salicylic acid, Glycolic Acid and Vitamin A. Clients with a widespread open and closed comedones respond quickly to the kerolytic effect of very light peels or medi- facials.

Microdermabrasion- light cosmetic procedure that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. Clears the skin from excessive oiliness and maintains a youthful clear skin. It also improves the appearance of light scarring and light pigmentation caused by acne. Ideal after the course of laser treatments.

Clarifying Medi Facial- A very mild skin peel with salicylic acid. Great to mildly resurface the skin and control oiliness without being too aggressive. Ideal for maintenance before or after the laser course of treatments. Suitable for all skin types.

Salycilic acid Peel- is the ideal option of acne treatments and oily skin types. SA it is an oil soluble active able to penetrate into the sebum of the pore and loosen the comedonal plug and may exert some low level anti-inflammatory effects. Different percentages of the acid allow different depths of resurfacing, depending on type of acne, pigmentation and scarring. Ideal to control the overproduction of oil and it is suitable for all skin types. A course of 4 treatments is recommended for long term results, every two weeks.

Glycolic Acid Peel- an alpha hydroxy is used similarly to salycilic acid peels, however it is a water soluble that is not quite as potent comedolytic but ideal for sensitive skins and can function as a humectant preventing barrier damage from acne medications. Suitable for all skin types. A course of 4 treatments is recommended for long term results, every two weeks.

Healthy Tips:

Avoid over cleansing, treating or excessively exfoliating the skin. This can cause irritation and stripping of the skins natural oils, it can increase oil production as a response and increase break out. Avoid over the counter products that claim control acne that in fact but in fact cause dehydration and poor healing.

Always use SPF30, protect compromised skin from UV rays especially between eleven and four in the afternoon the UVA incidence is at its highest, this can aggravate the condition and cause hyperpigmentation. Reapply every 30 min, avoid tanning beds.

Avoid using make up, and if so always use Mineral Make-up, it is skin friendly and less clogging to the pores. Always remove make and cleanse in the evenings with an antibacterial cleanser. Skin should be free of dirt and pollution from the environment. Wipe your skin with a disposable paper towel and change your pillow cases regularly.

Have a balanced diet rich in white meats, leafy green vegetables, fruits, drink plenty of water. A good diet is important to reduce inflammation internally, to help the ability to heal, detoxify, and maintain skins barrier. Avoid smoking, it decreases the healing processes and increases the body’s toxicity. Avoid eating oily and processed foods, caffeine. Exercise to increase circulation, skins oxygenation and reduce free radicals and toxic products of chronic inflammation.

Always cleanse your skin with an antibacterial cleanser, followed by a moisturizes that reduces break outs, control oiliness and enlarged pores. Day time always use a ZINCSPF30, protects vulnerable acne skin from hyperpigmentation.

Skin Care And Skin Concerns- Pigmentation

Good To Know

The actual skin color of different humans is affected by many substances, although the single most important substance determining human skin color is the pigment melanin. Melanin is produced within the skin in cells called melanocytes and it is the main determinant of the skin color of darker-skinned humans. The skin color of people with light skin is determined mainly by the bluish-white connective tissue under the dermis and by the hemoglobin circulating in the veins of the dermis. There is a correlation between the geographic distribution of UV radiation (UVR) and the distribution of indigenous skin pigmentation around the world. Areas that highlight higher amounts of UVR reflect darker-skinned populations, generally located nearer towards the equator. Areas that are far from the tropics and closer to the poles have lower concentration of UVR, which is reflected in lighter-skinned populations.

In the same population it has been observed that adult human females are considerably lighter in skin pigmentation than males. Females need more calcium during pregnancy and lactation. Vitamin D which is synthesized from sunlight helps absorbing calcium. Females evolved to have lighter skin in order to help their bodies absorb more calcium.

What Is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of an area of skin or nails caused by increased melanin. It can be caused by sun damage, inflammation, or other skin injuries, including those related to acne vulgaris. People with darker Asian, Mediterranean, or African skin tones are also more prone to hyperpigmentation, especially if they have excess sun exposure. The best way to presvent this sort of sun damage is by avoiding direct sun exposure between 12am and 4 pm, and at all times use an SPF 30 or SPF50 depending on the skin type and sensitivity.

Many forms of hyperpigmentation are caused by an excess production of melanin. Hyperpigmentation can be diffuse or focal, affecting such areas as the face and the back of the hands. Melanin is produced by melanocytes at the lower layer of the epidermis. Melanins a class of pigment responsible for producing color in the body in places such as the eyes, skin, and hair. As the body ages, melanocyte distribution becomes less diffuse and its regulation less controlled by the body. UV light stimulates melanocyte activity, and where concentrations of the cells are denser than surrounding areas, hyperpigmentation is affected. Can also be caused by using skin lightening lotions. Another form of hyperpigmentation is Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. These are dark and discolored spots that appear on the skin following acne that has healed. Hyperpigmentation may also occur during pregnancy due to dramatic hormonal change, and is called melasma.

Pigmentation may be:

Epidermal ( superficial) mainly caused by sun exposure and it is easily treated with lightening agents and laser rejuvenation.

Dermal, melanin is located in the deepest part of the skin, mainly caused by trauma or hormonal changes, more difficult to treat.

Skin Care And Skin Concerns- Aging

aging2

Signs of aging skin are the first to appear as the aging process begins to unfold, our bodies change dramatically as we get older. One of the most dramatic changes occur on the skin level, and the signs of aging skin tend to define the age of the person. The health and beauty of our skin as we were younger eventually disappears, we develop wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, spider veins and many other symptoms, and this is a natural process that affects every individual. Unfortunately we cannot stop the aging process but surely we can erase some of the evident physical signs of it. Hereditary information, a healthy lifestyle with minimum sun damage and regular exercise supports the fight of ageing.

Some signs are obvious, while other symptoms may go unnoticed. This signs can be divided into two main groups, not mutually exclusive. The first changes occur because of genetics- internal or intrinsic aging. Such as wrinkles, thin skin, greater visibility of pores, hollowed cheeks and eye sockets, sagging skin of the face, neck and upper arms, loss of elasticity and loss of firmness on the hands and neck.

The second – extrinsic are the changes that cause because of external influences that affect the bod, such as freckles, age spots that enlarge and darken with age, rough and leathery skin, spider veins on the face, fine and deep wrinkles and actinic keratoses.

For a successful treatment plan we need to recognise the signs of aging skin, correct, treat and understand how to prevent.

An essential homecare anti-ageing regime is of the most importance, to correct on a daily basis the damage caused and accumulated over the years. It also prepares the skin for the treatments.

What treatments can you do with Mesotherm?
mesotherm1 mesotherm2

What treatments can you do with Mesotherm?

The mesotherm device works through the separate or simultaneous use of different technologies:

• Microdermabrasion with low level laser

• Removal of the stratum corneum to stimulate the production of new cells in the basal layers of the skin.

• Heating of the dermis through Radiofrequency and micro needling

• Electroporation- mesotherapic cocktails channelled in the skin trough electroporation technique ensuring a deep subcutaneous penetration of active ingredients sensitive to electro conduction, resulting in injection free mesotherapy.

• Vacuum that delivers all the above technologies effectively.

This combined technologies enables treating:

• Fine lines and wrinkles

• Skin tightening and firming

• Face and Neck

• Skin laxity

• Pigmentation

• Stretch marks

The skin is constantly exposed to the effect of external agents and therefore its structure is at risk of oxidation stress. This can reduce its defence systems and speed up the ageing process. The skin has its lifecycle and the subsequent replacement with new cells. During the remodelling process the damaged proteins are removed and replaced by new proteins, this proteins accumulate the damage caused by various factors, especially sunlight. Sun exposure is the number one factor that causes ageing of the skin. After 25 years old the sebum production starts to decrease as well as the collagen and elastin fibre. Skin ageing is caused by genetic factors and metabolic processes, accompanied by hormonal changes which occur over time and gradually cause the atrophy of the dermis, the hypoderm and the supporting structures which the force of gravity is constantly working against. To stop the aging we need to be able to alter the genetic factor which impedes total replacement of everything that is old with new efficient cells. So far that is impossible, so what we can do is boost and strengthen the physiological mechanisms that keeps the skin youthful. Creams are used, substances are injected to increase moisture levels, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants to boost the structures to repair themselves.

The key to keep the skin beautiful is to keep the protective layer acid, with rapid turnover, reconstruct the damaged collagen and elastin proteins through heat stimulation ( either by Laser or Radiofrequency), micro needling that causes a controlled insult to the dermis enabling it to recover with new fresh skin, delivering directly active ingredients that support the cell turnover. This substances that creams claim cannot penetrate the epidermis so need direct delivery through needling, mesotherapy and electroporation.

mesotherm3

Microdermabrasion

MDA is a non-invasive, non-surgical technique to revitalise and rejuvenate the skin, improves the skin damage by photo-aging ( fine lines, hyperpigmentation), mild scars and stretch marks. It is closed cycle abrasive system, suing vacuum, which used the physical action of inert aluminium oxide crystals projected onto the skin by a compressed air system. This crystals transfer their kinetic energy to the cells on the first layers of the epidermis, removing the sebum and corneocytes. Varying degrees of exfoliation are obtained by altering the vacuum pressure, crystal speed, particle size, the impact angle, number of passages and the hand piece movement speed, giving the practitioner the ability to achieve precise results.

Contraindications: Cheloid scars, herpes simplex in the active phase, pustulous acne, facial surgery in the 2 months prior to the treatment.

Side effects: slight erythema, stinging during the treatment.

Diathermy- Radiofrequency and Needling

Diathermy using radiofrequency applies its properties by means of increasing the temperature in deep zones of the tissue. The heat is induced by passing an alterning current by Joule effect, the high frequency alterning current causes firming of the connective tissue. The effects produced on collagen by this technology are mainly induced by the heat that develops from the flow of the current that passes through the biological tissues , due to the resistance that is developed on the water molecules. The amount of heat depends on the current density, the accumulated heat causes a break of the bonds inside the collagen fibres leading to a reorganisation and contraction of the fibre. The micro needling further insults the dermis leading to a rejuvenation process ideal for fine lines, skin brightness, mild scars, pigmentation. The various sizes of the micro needles enables the different protocols and results, from just a refreshed looking skin to a proper resurfacing to address lines and scars.

Contraindications: Pregnancy and breastfeeding, neoplasia, treatment with anticoagulants, auto-immune disorders, wearers of pacemakers and metal plates in the zone being treated.

Side effects: oedema, erythema

Electroporation

Electroporation is a technique involving the local application of short and intense electric impulses, which reversibly render the cellular membranes permeable, creating electro pores aiding the penetration of active principles into the cells, boosting the effect of the substances in just those tissues that are exposed to the impulses. The delivery of mesotherapic cocktails that deep nourish and replenish the skin increases the cell turnover and a rejuvenated looking skin with no side effects.

The Vacuum supports all the above technologies, based on a mechanical suction system that creates a tissue massage with numerous properties. It increases the blood flow and oxygenation of the tissue, increases the healing and recovery and delivers specifically the treatments to the treated area.

Combination Of Technologies And Time Duration Of The Treatments

• Microdermabrasion with low level laser for a refreshed looking skin, followed by a facial massage to relax the skin, it takes approx. 35 min and it is suitable for all skin types and concerns.

• Microdermabrasion followed by monopolar radiofrequency with electroporation for skin tightening and firming, duration of treatment 45 min.

• Microdermabrasion followed by RF and micro needling finished by mesotherapic cocktails for a true anti-ageing treatment responsible to reverse the visible signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots, skin laxity, acne scars. Duration of the treatment 60 min.

• Microdermabrasion followed by a chemical peel to resurface the skin, brighten and firm. Duration 40 min. The microdermabrasion exposes the skin and therefor the peel penetrates deeper.

• Microdermabrasion followed by laser rejuvenation, an extremely effective combination to enhance skin elasticity, brightness and stimulate the collagen fibres.

Other Treatment Applications

Scars

Scars are areas of fibrous tissue ( fibrosis) that replace normal skin after injury. It results from the biological process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues on the body, scaring is a natural part of the healing process. Scar tissue is the same protein –collagen as the tissue it replaces but the fiber composition is different, and this scar tissue has less functional quality. Less resistant to ultraviolet radiation, sweat glands and hair follicules do not grow back within the scar tissue.

Two of the most common types are hypertrophic and keloid scarring, which have excessive stiff collagen growth over the tissue blocking the regeneration of tissues. Another form is atrophic –sunken scarring, in this case the collagen bundles do not over extend tissue. The only way to stimulate a compromised tissue is by in a controlled protocol restart a healing process, either through a non-invasive treatment with Laser and radio frequency to stimulate the collagen fibres to further support the skin or through a direct approach with deep microdermabrasion and micro needling.

Mesotherm treats scars effectively except keloids.

Program: minimum of 8 session every 2 weeks, depending on the severity of the scar.

• Deep Microdermabrasion ( 20 min), followed by Monopolar RF ( 10min) alternating with needling with vitamin C and collagen repair cocktail ( 20 min).

• Complementary treatments- Laser rejuvenation for bio stimulation.

• Homecare: Sunblock SPF50, Rose E twice daily.

Stretch Marks

Changes on the body, such as quick growth or weight gain, can overstretch the tissue under the skin and tear it, resulting in stretch marks. SM may also be influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, and muscle building, hormonal replacement therapy. Red SM are newer ones and white are older ones. It can appear anywhere on the body, but more likely to appear where larger amounts of fat are stored. Whenever a stretch mark develops the tissue is compromised, so there is a need to further stimulate it for a healing process to develop and recover the tissue, new skin will develop, firmer and tighter. Program: 10 weeks protocol.

• First 4 sessions: Deep Microdermabrasion ( 20 min), followed by Monopolar RF ( 10min), followed by electroporation with Neo Tone and Radio frequency for 10 min.

• Remaining 6 session: Mild Microdermabrasion ( 10min) followed by micro needling with radio frequency.

Homecare: Sunblock SPF50 if the treated area is exposed to the sun.

Mild Alopecia

Alopecia refers to hair loss in areas that normally have hair. There are two form of Alopecia: scarring and non-scarring. Scarring is the loss of hair follicles, this form causes permanent hair loss. In the case of non-scarring the hair shaft is gone, but the follicles are still present. It often is reversible, it can also develop into the scarring type. Non-scarring types include:

• Androgenetic( hereditary) alopecia

• Telogen affluvium

• Alopecia areata ias an autoimmune process, the cause is unknown.

Mesotherm develops proper protocols to treat non-scarring type of alopecia.

Protocol: 10 weeks protocol, every week. The number of sessions is established depending on the severity of the problem.

• 10 sessions of very mild microdermabrasion ( 3 to 10min), followed by electroporation with Hair System for 10 min that delivers active ingredients that stimulate the dormant follicles.

Complementary treatments: Needling, local mesotherapy.
Homecare: Neo Hair Vials, one vial every day.

Is The Treatment Painful?

The microdermabrasion and micro needling can be mildly unpleasant, a topical anaesthetic can be applied 30 min prior to the treatment. The radiofrequency and mesotherapy feels like a hot face massage, very relaxing and soothing.

What Is The Skins Appearance Immediately After The Treatment And What After Care Is Necessary?
Occasionally the treatment results in a mild redness which may last a few hours. Slight skin sensitivity may also occur. Mesotherm offers progressive results without any side effects or particularly unpleasant sensations. The aftercare includes a complete homecare regime to increase moisture levels, and the use of a zinc oxide SPF30.
How Many Treatments Are Required For Substantial Results?
Age and skin condition will determine the number of treatments required to achieve the maximum effect. For most common skin conditions a minimum of 4 treatments is usually required. The results are evident from both the skin texture and its appearance after the very first session regardless of the protocol chosen.

Anti Aging Medical Treatments – Dermaroller Or Micro Needling

Dermaroller | Muscle Relaxing Injections | Dermal Fillers | Sculptra

dermaroller1

Dermaroller Applications

Dermaroller is a medical roller with hundreds of micro-skin needles arranged around it. As the Dermaroller is passed across the skin it causes small micro punctures in the skin surface that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely. A controlled trauma is caused to induce a healing process and create a smoother, brighter, healthier, younger looking-skin. This controlled damage is not deep enough to elicit a scarring response however it will cause a healing response. The nearby tissue is broken down and new elastin and collagen are formed. This way scarring, lines, wrinkles and pigmentation are gently removed, replaced over time with a new scar free skin. The Doctor is able to control the depth of penetration of the needles to achieve the best result. Needles can go as deep as 1.5mm on the face and 3mm on the body. This depends on the clients condition and the objective of the treatment. Superficial Micro needling that works on the Epidermis can be performed by our trained therapists, this more gentle approach is for clients that just want to refresh the appearance of the skin and present very mild scarring. Deeper micro needling is performed by our Dermatologist. There are several alternative treatments that can achieve the same results such as Fractional Laser, Resurfacing Laser, Deep Chemical Peeling, however all this procedures are associated with unwanted side effects and tend to be more aggressive, are advised for extreme cases whereas derma roller treatments wouldn’t result in the best outcome possible. It is a fairly straight forward treatment, with minimal downtime.

What To Expect

The treatment is relatively pain free, an anesthetic cream is applied to reduce any discomfort that may be caused. We recommend a course of three to four treatments approximately six weeks apart to allow recovery of the skin that is already compromised. The Dermaroller treatment takes 30 minutes. The side effects are minimal, the area treated may look red, similar to moderate sunburn. This usually settles within a few hours, for clients with sensitive skin may take longer to recover. During the recovery period clients can apply mineral make up.

Who Is Suitable For The Treatment

Women and Men that aim to improve the skin texture and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage. Also Clients that have acne scars, burn scars and stretch marks. Skin that has suffered damage and needs stimulation. Not suitable for:

Clients with active acne, it can induce break outs and spread bacteria;

Heavy smokers, smoking enables recovery and compromises the healing processes;

Pregnancy, the immune system is compromised and all invasive treatments are not recommended.

Clients with auto-immune diseases, recovery might be compromised.

Areas To Be Treated

Dermaroller can be used on any part of the body. The most common area is the face for acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. It can also be used to treat lines and wrinkles on the neck, décolletage, back of the hands and areas with stretch marks.

Results

After the treatment the Practitioner applies a barrier repair cream to encourage the repair of the skin. An antibacterial ointment is also applied to avoid infection. Clients should avoid Sun exposure as skin has been treated, is sensitive and prone to pigmentation. Clients must wear ZIncSPF30 at all times and reapply several times a day. It can take up to six weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months. The healing time and results depend on ability to recover and it is different for everyone. The results achieved are permanent, repaired skin does not revert. For the treatment of lines and wrinkles, the ageing processes continue and new line will form.

Recommended Treatments

Microdermabrasion: light cosmetic procedure that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. Smooth’s the skin before the dermaroller procedure and increases healing ability. Ideal before and after the course of treamentt to maintain healthy skin.

Mild Glycolic Acid Peel: a gentle Glycolic acid that helps improve skin brightness and texture, advised for clients prone to pigmentation. Can be done before and after the treatments.

Homecare: Cleanse the skin with a gentle glycolic cleanser, hydrate with an active anti-aging ingredient Vitamin A and Vitamin C a powerful antioxidant. Zinc SPF 30 to protect the skin from UV Rays.

Healthy Tips:

A healthy life approach that helps combat the aging processes and the signs of aging.

Always use SPF30, avoid sun exposure between 11am – 16:00Pm, where the UVA incidence levels are high and cause skin aging.

Exercise regularly, physical activity boosts self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, reducing the risk of stress and depression. Increases blood oxygenation and healing processes.

Healthy and balanced diet, try to eat your 5 a day, 5 portions of fruit and vegetables. This simple step lowers the risk of serious health problems: heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Avoid smoking- the health benefits of quitting are immediate. Slow unhealthy aging now. For more information visit Quit Smoking.

Muscle Relaxing Injections

muscle1

With the normal aging processes moderate to severe wrinkles become noticeable and can cause some distress. Millions of people choose non-invasive, effective ways to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and learn how to manage the aging process adequately. Muscle relaxing injections use a prescription medicine that is injected into the muscle blocking the nerve impulses, which results in temporarily relaxing the facial muscles by reducing muscle activity. Wrinkles may develop as either hyperdynamic lines caused by the repetitive movement of underlying facial musculature over the years or as a redundant skin which develops as the skin progressively loses its elasticity and submits to the relentless pull of gravity. These lines ultimately remain as wrinkles at rest. Hyperdynamic wrinkles are more prominent where the underlying muscles and fascia have more direct attachements to the skin, such as in the frontal, glabellar, periocullar, nasolabial and perioral areas. The success of this treatment is due to not only softening the existing lines but as well as preventing the formation of new wrinkles.

muscle2

Treatment

Treatments are carried by a registered Dermatologist. The treatment involves a few tiny injections into the muscles that cause the visible lines, and sessions are brief, 10 to 20 minutes. In order to isolate the areas to be injected your treatment will be carried out in a sitting position. Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling that usually subsides within 24 hours. The application of ice for a few minutes after the treatment will help to reduce the possible swelling. We advise you to use the injected muscles after the treatment to help speed up the onset effect.

The treatment is non- invasive with virtually no recovery time necessary. You my resume to your normal activities immediately after treatment. Usually no anesthesia is required, however the doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or an anesthetic cream.

injection

Results

Within a few days you may see an improvement in the degree of the lines. Lines continue to improve for up to 14 days. Top up treatments are usually not necessary however if the client needs further injections, this can only be done up to 14 days after the treatment and have an additional fixed cost. The doctor injects the sufficient amount to treat the wrinkle during the treatment and cannot predict if results are 100% as this varies for every individual. Results can last up to 5 months, you can have another treatment done by then. Although the results of the treatment are visible, this will not radically change your facial appearance nor it should and you may continue to have the normal facial expressions but without the visible lines.

Dermal Fillers

Aging

The dermis layer is right below the epidermis and constitutes the skin’s structural elements, such as nerves, hair follicles and blood vessels. The growth of cells and blood vessels is enhanced through a framework provided by a network of fibres that is formed by protein. The major component of the dermis is collagen which gives the skin its firm elasticity and strength, offering fundamental support to the skin. As one grows old the ageing process causes the upper layer (the epidermis) to gradually become thin and provides less protection to the dermis layer. In addition, collagen production in the body slows down considerably as the existing collagen becomes ineffective. This then causes wrinkles, folds, depressions and other forms of skin abnormalities associated with old age. It is at this point that dermal fillers become necessary to reduce the consequences of the deteriorating epidermis and weakened collagen. Dermal fillers technically work as replenishment for the natural collagen which has been rendered less effective by the ageing process. They work as collagen and, depending on the quality of the system used, impressive results can be achieved.

The general working principle is similar for all dermal fillers, but may vary slightly from one type to another. Dermal fillers are usually designed to treat one area specifically, such as the lips. Often, various dermal fillers are marketed under a similar name with each treating a different area of the body, or providing a different level of treatment.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are widely used in the United Kingdom due to their high levels of safety and reliability. It is a natural substance which can be found in every living organism. As a result it is biocompatible and side-effects are very rare.Products which use hyaluronic acid include Perlane, Restylane, Belotero, Teosyal and Juvéderm. Hyaluronic acid fillers come in varying levels of thickness and so they are a flexible option to improve different sections of the face. Thinner fillers are more suitable for wrinkles and fine lines, or enrichment of the lips, while thicker fillers are able to address very deep wrinkles and volume loss, lasting between six and twelve months.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, also known as “injectables” or “soft-tissue fillers,” do just what their name suggests: they fill in the area under the skin. Some fillers are natural and some are synthetic, but they all work to improve the appearance of aging skin in the following ways. Hyaluronic acid) is a common ingredient in injectable filler. Hyaluronic acid fillers have become popular soft tissue filler augmentation agents over the past several years. They have helped revolutionize the filler market with a number of new products available for use for patients. The fundamental working principle of dermal fillers is that they have a ‘plumping’ effect. This simply implies that they will plump-up the area which has received the injection, levelling it with other parts of the skin and making it look plumped out, even and no longer sunken. Ultimately, different fillers may achieve this goal in slightly different ways, but the result is that the skin will look plump and firm, young and refreshed.

Fillers can be used for the following treatments:

• filling in wrinkles, fine lines and deep creases
• improving other imperfections like scars
• filling out thin or wrinkled lips
• plumping up cheeks
• contouring the jaw line and other areas of the face
• Dermal fillers are frequently used in the correction of scarring, wrinkles and other depressions in the skin. They are a form of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, and can be injected into the skin to improve aesthetics. They are generally made of several types of synthetic, man-made and natural collagens. For anyone suffering from problems such as wrinkles, folds or depressions in the skin, dermal fillers may be the best solution to improve appearance. The procedure is quick, often taking just 30 minutes or less to complete, and many people experience no pain at all and minimum side-effects.

• Restylane : Produced by Galderma, originally invented by Q-Med. Restylane is a dermal filler that can be used to restore volume and fullness to skin, significantly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Restylane can be applied around the nose, lips and wrinkles.[3]
• Juvéderm : Produced by Allergan. Juvéderm is an injectable filler which is approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is produced by Allergan.

What To Expect

The treatment is done by a Consultant Dermatologist.

The treatment is successful by taking advantage of the basic roles and functions of the skin, which can also help in fully understanding the procedure. The human skin is made up of two layers, namely the epidermis and the dermis. The outermost layer is the epidermis and its main function is to serve as protection against the effects of the environment and other components. It controls water loss from tissues and cells, thus serving as a barrier to the outside environment.

Before having dermal filler treatment you will need to visit a practitioner to guide you through the process of selecting the best dermal filler for your skin. This is also a great opportunity to discuss the results you would like to achieve.

Consent is also signed before undergoing treatment to ensure the patient understands possible effects. The initial treatment can often take place during the first visit, when the filler recommended fits the skin requirement based on the doctor’s test. Treatments involving wrinkles and lines often require anaesthetic cream, which is applied around twenty minutes prior to having treatment. The function of the cream is to help numb the area for treatment and reduce pain when the injection is used. Depending on the type of filler and the area undergoing treatment, different types of injection will be used. In the treatment of filling out wrinkles there are two injection techniques that can be used: the linear threading technique and the serial puncture technique.

The effect lasts for about six months or longer. Successful results depend on health of the skin, skill of the doctor, type of filler used.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side-effects include bruising, bleeding, itching, skin discoloration, viral infection, bacterial infection, redness and swelling at the region of injection, allergic reactions, lumps under the skin and skin ulceration in the injected area. The important point to note is that most of these effects are expected when going through dermal treatment, and that they will disappear within a period of two to three days. If they persist then it becomes necessary to check with a qualified medical person to ensure everything is normal and there is no problem.

Cellulite

Is a very common condition, especially in women that are genetically and hormonally predisposed to cellulite. It is probably one of the most aesthetically troubling concerns of women, it is estimated that 80% of women over the age of 20, regardless of their weight or size are affected by Cellulite. It consists of fat deposits that appear mainly on the hips, thighs and buttocks. The skins connective tissue surrounds fat cells, which are arranged in chambers. The margins of these chambers contain septae. Over time, the fat cells increase in size and number together with the accumulation of localized edema, push the skins surface between the septae in an upward direction. This is what creates the lumpy and dimpled skin appearance. The leading causes are various from hereditary, hormones, smoking, lack of exercise, poor diet, are proven to enhance the phenomenon.

Tattoo Removal Has Never Been Easier

Laser technology has made it possible to remove unwanted tattoos via a faster and safer method that ever before. No longer will patients need to consider skin-damaging treatments such as acid removal, excision, and dermabrasion. Today’s aesthetic lasers offer a proven alternative for safer and more effective ink removal. The ink is then absorbed by the natural bodily processes, fading the tattoo until it is no longer visible
How does laser tattoo removal work?
Laser energy is gently applied to the skin over the tattooed area. The laser shatters each ink particle into much smaller particles that can be eliminated through your body’s natural process.
Through a series of treatments, the tattoo will fade and ultimately disappear.

Will the tattoo disappear right away?

You may notice an immediate fading. Generally tattoo removal will take place in a series of treatments. The number of treatments depends on the colour and density of the ink, the age of the tattoo, along with the location on your body.

spider2There are different designations for facial and legs veins depending on the diameter size and depth of the vein, accordingly these veins require different treatments. Thread veins or spider veins are small dilated blood vessels that appear near the surface of the skin measuring 3mm or less in diameter. For larger spider veins, known as telangiectasia, and smaller varicose leg veins sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment preferred over laser. The sclerosing solution is injected and closes the feeder veins under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, making the recurrence less likely. Varicose veins that are twisty bulging veins on the legs caused by an increase in the normal venous pressure, the mainstay of treatment for these deeper and larger veins is surgery or endovascular laser.

Thread Veins are most common on the nose, cheeks and legs, and can cause some distress and embarrassment for those who have them. Using Fotona XP-Dinamis ( Nd-yag laser), Laze away provides a safe and effective treatment for the removal of spider veins for all skin types with minimal downtime or risk in a few quick treatments.

Causes

Thread Veins May Be Hereditary Or A Result Of A Variety Of Factors Such As Sun Damage, Oral Contraceptives, Smoking, Alcohol Consumption, Varicose Veins, Pregnancy, Tight Leggings, Cross Legs Sitting And Prolonged Standing. The Over Use Of Steroid Creams, Certain Auto Immune Conditions And Rosacea ( Skin Condition That Cause Constant Flushing), May Also Induce Spider Veins.

Treatment

Lasers have been used to treat various vascular lesions since the 1970’s, by introducing new wavelengths and variable pulse durations; the laser treatment of Vascular Lesions has become safe and extremely effective. Based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, hemoglobin is the primary target of Nd-Yag laser light, as the energy is absorbed by the blood in the vessel, heat is created, the blood within the vessel coagulates and is effectively destroyed, a selective thermo-injury. Nd:Yag light also targets the underlying vascular feeding system, which is important for ensuring a long term result. Following the treatment the vessels quickly clear as and the vessel itself will be effectively destroyed and will be absorbed by the body, within 1 to 3 weeks leaving no trace of the original veins. Blood flow is then redirected to veins deeper below. The laser selectively targets the problem veins while sparring surrounding areas. Fotonas long pulse Nd:Yag laser penetrate to a depth of a 5-6mm into the skin, allowing for a highly effective treatment for veins up to 3mm.

Who Can Be Treated And Where

All Skin types can be treated. The Fotona Xp Dinamis treats spider veins from all parts of the body, your therapist will be able to advise you on the suitability of the treatment based on your particular circumstances.

How Many Treatments Are Necessary And How Long Does Each Treatment Take

Typically three to four treatments are needed for maximum results, though small lesions may clear in just a single session. Sessions are repeated every six weeks to allow full recovery of each session. Treatment time varies between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on size of the area treated, larger areas may take longer. It is important to stress that reabsorption of vein tissue and period of complete recovery is a characteristic of each individual.

How Long Does It Last

Immediately after the treatment the veins will look more prominent and darker in colour, because of coagulation of the blood. After one to three weeks the veins will fade gradually. People who have developed unsightly veins may eventually develop them again, especially facial blood vessels. It is recommended that a maintenance plan is developed to check results and relapse.

What Does The Treatment Feel Like

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anesthesia. Sometimes for sensitive clients we use topical anesthetic cream 1 hour prior the treatment. The cold air cooling method during the treatment protects the epidermis from overheating and minimizes pain and discomfort. The cooling cold air system cools the epidermis before during and after laser energy without interfering with the laser beam.

Pretreatment Advice

No Sun exposure and tanning beds or creams for at least two weeks prior the treatment.

Post Care Advice:

Following your treatment you can resume normal activities.

Discomfort such as swelling and redness( erythema), hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, are possible risks and complications of the laser procedure, they are temporary and can resolve in a few days, can be relieved with ice packs. There is a possible risk, though very small, of scarring.

Avoid taking aspirin, brufen or any other blood thinning drugs.

Avoid drinking red wine, coffee and spices for at least 48h after treatment;

Apply hydrocortisone 1% cream (available at Boots) for the first 2 days; Arnica gel for the following days to hydrate and sooth the area treated;

Avoid exposure to the sun. Apply sunscreen SPF30 at all times;

Avoid using make up, if using we advise Mineral make up and remove it delicately, rubbing can increase scarring;

Treatment on the legs, clients should avoid long periods standing or sitting.

Avoid hot baths and heavy exercise at least 48h post treatment, ideally up to one week, walking is encouraged;

If a crust develops allow it to fall naturally, do not scratch or pick;

Laser Skin Rejuvenation & Tightning- Aging

The deterioration of biological functions and ability to manage metabolic stress is one of the major consequences of the aging process. Aging is a complex, progressive process that leads to functional and esthetic changes in the skin. This process can result from both intrinsic (i.e. genetically determined), as well as extrinsic processes (i.e. environmental factors). Photoaging is attributed to continuous, long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation of approximately 300–400 nm, either natural or synthetic, on an intrinsically aged skin. The epidermal layer does not contain any blood vessels or nerve endings but melanocytes and basal cells are embedded in this layer. Upon exposure to UVB rays, melanocytes will produce melanin, a pigment that gives the skin its color tone. However, UVB will cause the formation of freckles and dark spots, both of which are symptoms of photoaging. With constant exposure to UVB rays, signs of photoaging might appear and precancerous lesions or skin cancer may develop.

UVA rays are able to penetrate deeper into the skin as compared to UVB rays. Hence, in addition to the epidermal layer, the dermal layer will also be damaged. The dermis is the second major layer of the skin and it comprises collagen, elastin, and extrafibrillar matrix which provides structural support to the skin. However, with constant UVA exposure, the size of the dermis layer will be reduced, thereby causing the epidermis to start drooping off the body. Due to the presence of blood vessels in the dermis, UVA rays can lead to dilated or broken blood vessels which are most commonly visible on the nose and cheeks.

The early symptoms of photoaging includes the following:

• Dyspigmentation and the formation of wrinkles around regions of skin commonly exposed to sun, namely the eyes, mouth and forehead.
• Spider veins on face and neck
• Loss of color and fullness in lips

Symptoms of photoaging attributed to prolonged exposure to UV:

• Wrinkles deepen and forehead frown lines can be seen even when not frowning.
• Telangiectasias (spider veins) most commonly seen around the nose, cheeks and chin.
• Skin becomes leathery and laxity occurs.
• Solar lentigines (age spots) appears on the face and hands.
• Possibly pre-cancerous red and scaly spots (actinic keratoses) appear.
• Cutaneous malignancies

How Does The Laser Work?

The decreasing activity of fibroblasts in connective tissue and the decreasing tightness and thickeness of collagen fibbers in the pappilary dermis are the main causes of skin-aging. The most common skin rejuvenation techniques are based on stimulating a responsive restorative process in the papillary dermis. The Fotona non-invasive Nd:Yag photo-collagen remodelling technique is more appealing because of its low downtime. It is based on the absorption of the laser energy by haemoglobin with partial coagulation of the microvasculature in the papillary dermis and release of inflammatory mediators. The process results in micro-vascular renewing, fibroblast stimulation and new collagen remodelling. The end result will be smoother skin, smaller pore sizes, improved skin Tightness, tone and texture.

Who Is Suitable?

Everyone is suitable and for all Skin Types, both Women and Men above 18 years old. Contraindications are Pregnancy, Active Acne, Roacutane Medication.

How often are the Treatments?

The advised Protocol to achieve dermal rejuvenation is 6 treatments every 4 weeks. During the treatments clients are not advised to have direct sun-exposure up to 2 months after the last treatment. Clients must wear at all times an SPF50.

Is It Safe?

All Laser treatments have been thoroughly studied and FDS approved, so extremely safe. Post care procedures must be taken very seriously to avoid any side-effects.

What To Expect

Smoother and brighter skin with smaller pore sizes, Skin is tighter, more toned and with improved texture. To maintain the collagen in a positive growth phase treatments should be followed up with a maintenance protocol. Wrinkles will continue to varnish over the 12 months after the initial treatment, as the natural rejuvenation process takes course. To increase and sustain the Collagen remodelling we suggest combining the Laser treatments with Radiofrequency especially for more mature skins with a pronounced photo aging and smokers.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation works perfectly with Microdermabrasion ( exfoliates the skin previous the treatment) allowing the Laser beam to work deeper, so treatments become more effective.

Warts & Verrucas

What Are Warts And Verrucas, Causes

The Nd-YAG laser offers the most advanced technology for safe and effective treatment of warts without surgery. With only 1-2 sessions, at minimal pain the warts become black within a week and gradually falls off after 3 weeks leaving very minimal scarring.

warts4

A Wart is a small, rough growth resembling a cauliflower or a solid blister. It typically occurs on hands and feet, but often in other locations. Warts are caused by a viral infection, specifically by one of the many types of human papillomavirus ( HPV). There are many as 10 varieties of warts, the most common one is the most harmless. It is possible to get warts from others; they are contagious and usually enter the body in an area of broken skin. They disappear after a few months but can last for years and can reoccur if not effectively treated. A range and types of wart can be identified, varying in shape and site affected, and well as the type of papillomavirus involved.

Verruca is a plantar wart- verruca plantaris. Is a wart that occurs on the sole or toes of the foot. These warts are usually self-limiting, treatment is recommended to lessen symptoms, like pain, decrease duration and reduce transmission. The human papilloma virus attacks compromised skin through direct contact, entering through possibly tiny cuts and abrasions in the outermost layer of the skin- stratum corneum. After infection, warts may not be visible for several weeks or months. Because of pressure on the sole of the foot or finger, the wart is pushed inward and a layer of hard skin may form over the wart. A plantar wart or verruca can be painful if left untreated. Pinpoint bleeding may occur when these are scratched. Verrucae tend to be painful on application of pressure from either side of the lesion rather than direct pressure unlike calluses. The virus is spread by direct and indirect contact from an infested host. Avoiding contact with possible infected surfaces is advised such as communal changing rooms, shower floors and benches, avoid sharing shoes and socks. All warts are contagious; precautions should be taken to avoid spreading them: cover them with an adhesive bandage while swimming; wear flip flops when using communal showers; don’t share towels.

How Does The Laser Work

Left alone two thirds of these warts will resolve spontaneously. Some however do not resolve despite repeated treatments and are referred to as recalcitrant warts. This is specially so in the case of plantar (sole of the foot), periungual (around the edge of the nail) and subungual (beneath the nail) types. Traditional treatments for warts involve physical destruction of the viral infected cells, such as application of acids, liquid nitrogen therapy, electrocautery and carbon dioxide ablation. These treatments all cause destruction of the top layer of the skin and may result in permanent scarring. Many topical treatments that you can use at home prove ineffective as warts become resistant and continually return. Vascular lasers such as Fotona XP Dinamis Nd-yag are able to offer the most advanced laser technology for safe and effective treatment. Treatment works by targeting blood vessels that supply the wart, as well as thermally destroying the wart itself, without causing damage to the surrounding skin. The laser energy heats up the wart, sealing its blood supply so that the wart can no longer survive. The client is assessed after four weeks.

What To Expect

While Some Mild Discomfort May Be Felt, The Procedure Is Quick And Usually There Is No Need For Anesthetic. Treatments Take Maximum 15 Minutes. The Practitioner Will Assess The Size And Location Of The Verrucae Or Wart And Advise You Accordingly. Previously Untreated Or Uncomplicated Warts May Resolve In Just One Treatment, Some Need Further Treatments To Ensure Optimum Results, Every 4 Weeks. The Laser Wart And Verrucae Removal Is Suitable For All Ages And Skin Types. Darker Skin Types May Experience Some Increased Pigmentation In The Skin Around The Affected Area, Although This Is Minimal And Temporary.

Aftercare

Immediately after the treatment your practitioner will apply soothing a cream like Aloe Vera and Arnica, that hydrate the skin as well. There are no special aftercare regimes; you can resume normal activities immediately. If you require more than one treatment, your practitioner will advise you how to take care of the area to ensure optimum results at your next treatment.

Onychomycosis

What Is Onychomycosis, Causes

Fungal nail infection is a nightmare for anyone, due to its pain, appearance and smell most people try many medical treatments with minimal benefit. Laser treatments nowadays become the treatment of choice because of its effectiveness with no side effects.

What Is Onychomycosis, Causes

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail. It is the most common disease of the nails. This condition may affect toenails or fingernails, but toenail are particularly common. The symptoms of a fungal nail are the nail becoming thickened and discolored: white, yellow, black or green. As the infection progresses the nail can become brittle, with pieces breaking off or coming away from the toe or finger completely. If left untreated, the skin can become inflamed and painful underneath and around the nail. People with onychomycosis may experience significant psychological problems due to the appearance of the nail that is visible. Aging is the most common risk factor for onychomycosis due to diminished blood circulation, longer exposure to fungi, nails that grow more slowly and thicken, increasing susceptibility to infection. The nail fungus tend to affect more men than women and it is associated with a family history of this infection. Other risk infections include perspiring heavily, being in a humid moist environment, psoriasis, wearing socks and shoes that hinder ventilation and do not absorb perspiration, going barefoot in damp public places such as swimming pools, gyms and shower rooms, having athelet’s foot ( tinea pedis), minor skin and nail injury, damaged nail, having diabetes, circulation problems or a weakened immune system. To avoid misdiagnosis, a laboratory confirmation may be necessary and involves a microscopic examination and culture of nail scrapings and clippings. In approximately half of suspected nail infections are actually nail deformities, therefor a confirmation of fungal infection is needed.

How Does Laser Work

Fungal nail infections affect a huge number of people, given its widespread nature, there is little awareness of the disease and treatment options. There are various treatment options which include: topical anti-fungal treatments applied over many months. These have a very low successful rate are time consuming and the nail unit is relatively impenetrable; powerful prescription anti-fungal drugs taken over a period of months, these are effective but there are possible unwanted side effects and can be contra-indicated with certain conditions or medication. Infected nails can be surgically removed in extreme cases. Fotona Xp Dynamis Laser is a revolutionary patient friendly method for treating onychomycosis. It is a simple and extremely effective procedure that uses the power of Nd-Yag laser light to heat evenly throughout the depth of the affected nail and skin tissue, weakening and killing parasitic fungi which have infected the patients nails. Deep, pulse- profile heating of the nail bed stimulates the killing of parisitic fungus. The natural growth and immune processes of the body are then able to restore the nail to its pristine state. Compared to traditional methods, the effects of laser light spread evenly thoughout the tissue and are not subject to either the limits of chemical diffusion ( as are topicals) or the introduction of hepatoxic side effects ( case of oral medications).

What To Expect

For the Laser treatment the nail is prepared to ensure a successful, even heat delivery. The nail is filed down, onychomycosis causes deformed and thickened nails, so filling down the nail allows laser light to fully penetrate into the treatment site. The Laser light is then applied to the entire nail, perimeter of the nail bed and around the finger or toe. Often parasitic fungus have worked its way beyond the nail bed needs to be eliminated in all the tissue surrounding the nail to prevent recurrence. All nails should be treated during every treatment; laser light can also effectively treat fungus which has infected skin tissue. Client should feel a slight heating sensation. The treatment is performed 4 times, a week apart and all nails are treated 3 times per session. Treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.

Acne

What Is Acne

What Is Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that mostly affects teenagers and younger adults and it can have psychological effects if not treated or managed. Although acne can’t be cured it can be controlled with treatment. Acne vulgaris or simply acne is a common skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), nodules(large papules), pimples and possibly scarring. Acne affects mostly skin with densest population of sebaceous follicles. These areas include the face, upper part of the chest and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory but acne can also manifest in non-inflammatory forms. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen stimulation. Acne develops as a result of blockages in the follicles. Hyper keratinization and formation of a plug of keratin and sebum- a microcomedo is the earliest change. The micromedo may enlarge to form an open comedo- blackhead, or closed comedo. Even mild cases of acne can cause distress and managing it from an early stage prevents scars and hyperpigmentation and enables the control of active acne to worsen.

How Fotona Laser Works

There are different types of Acne depending on its severity and presentation. There are multiple scales for grading acne. Acne can be treated but not cured. Acne can be treated both with topical and oral medications that may fall into either the prescription or over the counter ( OTC) categories. Examples are benzoyl peroxide creams( for moderate acne), antibiotics ( severe cases), topical retinoids, oral retinoids ( very severe acne), antiseborrheic medications, anti-androgen medications, hormonal treatments, comedo extraction. All these options work at least in 4 different ways, some by normalizing shedding and sebum production into the pore preventing blockage, killing bacteria, anti-inflammatory effects another’s by hormonal manipulation. With increased resistance of bacteria, antibiotics are becoming less effective. Topical applications are time consuming, sensitize the skin, and may increase hyperpigmentation. Oral retinoids treat severe acne but have a lot of unwanted side effects such as being hepatoxic . Fotona offers a laser acne treatment protocol that provides a truly comprehensive solution for active acne treatment. Fotonas precisely controlled Nd:Yag laser light safely penetrates in to the skin effectively target overactive sebaceous glands and reduces the risk of developing new acne inflammation. For active acne, Fotonas laser reduces inflammation trough photoselective absorption and controlled heating effects and also accelerates the healing process stimulating collagen remodeling, an important step in the long term treatment. At Laze away we are able to treat all skin types and all types of Acne.

What To Expect

Fotona is a gentle and virtually painless light therapy, is a lot faster than other lasers. During the treatment you will feel a slight warming sensation. There is no need for anesthesia. We recommend a course of 5 treatments every two weeks for optimum results . After the first treatment skin can appear worse, this out break can occur because the impurities are being expelled and flushed out. It is a sign that the treatment is working, considerable improvement after the second and thisd treatment. Others may notice an immediate improvement, the overall reaction is dependent on skin type and type of acne.

Other Recommended Treatments

Fotona Laser is the number one treatment recommended for active acne However, .after the course of treatments we recommend on-going maintenance.

Microdermabrasion – light cosmetic procedure that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. Clears the skin from excessive oiliness and maintatins a youthful clear skin. It also improves the appearance of light scarring and light pigmentation caused by acne. Ideal after the course of laser treatments.

Clarifying Medi- Facia– A very mild skin peel with salycilic acid. Great to mildly resurface the skin and control oiliness without being too aggressive. Ideal for maintenance before or after the laser course of treatments. Suitable for all skin types.

Salycilic acid Peel-is the ideal option of acne treatments, it is an oil soluble active able to penetrate into the sebum of the pore and loosen the comedonal plug and may exert some low level anti-inflammatory effects. Different percentages of the acid allow different depths of resurfacing, depending on type of acne, pigmentation and scarring. Suitable before and after the laser treatments. Suitable for all skin types.

Glycolic Acid Peel– an alpha hydroxy is used similarly to salicylic acid peels, however it is a water soluble that is not quite as potent comedolytic but ideal for sensitive skins and can function as a humectant preventing barrier damage from acne medications. Suitable before and after the laser treatments. Suitable for all skin types.

TCA Medical Strenght Peels– TCA peels are strong skin resurfacers, applied by a doctor. These peels are recommended only for severe cases of acne scarring, sun damaged skin and mild to deep wrinkles. Not suitable for active acne, and only suitable for lighter skin types. Ideal after the course of laser treatments.

Derma roller– Done by a Dermatologist, ideal for acne scarring. Also known as micro needling, uses a small roller with hundreds of very fine needles that cause a controlled trauma, the recovery of the causes trauma stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers. The treatment encourages cell renewal and growth of new capillaries which improve blood supply to the skin, repairing the scars caused by acne. Resulting in a younger, firmer and smoother skin. Not suitable for active acne, and only suitable for lighter skin types. Ideal after the course of laser treatments.

Avoid picking and touching break outs, this can cause scarring and spread active bacterial infections. Always wash your hands before touching your skin to reduce bacteria proliferation.

Always use SPF30, protect compromised skin from UV rays especially between eleven and four in the afternoon the UVA incidence is at its highest, this can aggravate the condition and cause hyperpigmentation. Reapply every 30 min ,avoid tanning beds.

Acne data Comedones are the direct result of sebaceous glands becoming clogged with sebum, naturally occurring oil and dead skin cells. The occurring commensal bacterium can cause inflammation leading to inflammatory lesions in the dermis around the comedone, which results in redness, scarring and hyperpigmentation. Understanding how acne occurs and develops is important but its causes and triggers are several and equally important. Genetic, the predisposition to develop acne is likely explained by a genetic component; hormonal activity such as menstrual cycles and puberty may contribute in the formation of acne. During puberty an increase in sex hormones called androgens cause the follicular glands to grow larger and produce more sebum; true acne vulgaris in adult women may be a feature of an underlying condition such as pregnancy, disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome, hisutism, or Cushing’s syndrome. Menopause- associated acne, known as Acne climacterica occurs as production of natural anti-acne ovarian hormones estradiol and progesterone fail, permitting the acnegenic hormone testosterone to exert its effects. Stress can cause an acne flare, a high glycemic load diet can worsen acne, although diet has not be proven to have a direct effect on active acne. For most people acne diminishes over time and tends to disappear by age 25. There is, however no way to predict how long it will take to disappear entirely, and some individuals will carry this condition into their thirties, forties and beyond. Severe cases of inflammatory acne is present with large nodules or cysts, the term is nodulocystic acne, the cysts or boils can appear on the buttocks, groin, armpit area and anys type of acne where where sweat glands collects in hair follicles and perspiration ducts. This type of acne affects deeper skin tissue and is prone to leave scars. Aside from scarring, its main effects are psychological, reduced self-esteem and in severe cases, depression. Acne appears during adolescence , when people already tend to be the most socially insecure. Early and aggressive treatment is therefore advocated by some to lessen the overall long-term impact to individuals.

What Is Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic condition characterized by facial redness and sometimes pimples. Rosacea affects all ages and has four subtypes, three affecting the skin and the fourth affecting the eyes- ocular type. Left untreated it worsens over time. Redness and sensitivity typically appears between the ages of 30 and 50 and can affect women more so than men. Fair skin and blue eyed people are also more likely to suffer from the condition. Typically begins as redness on the central face across the cheeks, nose, forehead, but can also affect the neck, chest, ears and scalp. There are various symptoms depending on the severity but the most common are: semi-permanent redness, telangiectasia( dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), burning, stinging and itching sensations. In some aggravated cases red dome papules (small bumps) and pustules, and a red lobulated nose( rhinophyma).

rosacea2

Types Of Rosacea

Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea

Permanent redness(erythema)
with a tendency to flush and blush easily

Papulopustular Rosacea

Some permanent redness with red bumps (papules)
with some pus filled ( pustules)

Phymatous Rosacea

Associated with rhinophyma, an enlargement of the nose

Ocular Rosacea

Red ( due to telangiectasias), dry, irritated eyes and eyelids

Triggers that cause episodes of flushing and blushing are directly related to the development and aggravation of the condition, but inflammatory disorders of the facial skin are poorly understood. The causes and triggers of Rosacea vary, the following list are the most known and common: hedetirary ( if a parent or family member suffers from the condition you may be more prone), Sun exposure, stress, anxiety, cold wind, heavy exercise as it increases blood flow, alcohol consumption ( specially red wine), hot baths, spicy food, caffeine, foods high in histamines( red wine, aged cheese, yogurt, beer),the demodex mite ( a parasite that can live in the hair follicule and feeds on sebum, in its presence the skin can be reactive with redness); helicobacter plori bacterium living in the upper colon is thought to be a cause. Certain medications and topical irritants can also trigger Rosacea, some acne and wrinkle treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, high dosages of tretinoin in anti-aging and acne skin care, steroid creams, are some of the possible triggers. The above listed are not the causes of Rosacea but have been reported to aggravate. Avoiding the major triggers is the best way to control the development of this skin condition. Rosacea is associated with sensitive and dehydrated skins, as the constant inflammation interferes with hydration, the ability to keep moist and it can cause great distress for those who have it. People that have this condition are not suitable to a variety of Aesthetic treatments; anything that is abrasive or interferes with the epidermis will aggravate the condition.

How Laser Works

Treating rosacea varies depending on severity and subtypes. Therapy for the treatment is not curative, and is best measured in terms of reduction in the amount of erythema and inflammatory lesions, decrease in the number, duration and intensity of flares, and concomitant symptoms of itching, burning and tenderness. The two primary modalities of rosacea treatment are topical and oral antibiotic agents, while medications often produce a temporary remission of redness within a few weeks, the redness typically returns shortly after treatment is suspended. Fotona XP Dinamis Laser it is a safe and effective way of treating and controlling the facial redness that cause constant flushing and blushing, by targeting the small dilated blood vessels within the skin. Based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, hemoglobin is the primary target of Nd-Yag laser light, as the energy is absorbed by the blood in the vessel, heat is created, the vessel wall coagulates and is effectively destroyed, a selective thermo-injury, causing the vessel to be absorbed by the bodys natural defence mechanism. Fotonas long pulse Nd:Yag laser penetrate to a depth of a 5-6mm into the skin, allowing for a highly effective treatment.

What To Expect

With a sufficient number of treatments, this method may even eliminate the redness altogether, though additional periodic treatments will likely be necessary to remove newly formed capillaries. Low Level Therapy

These lasers are described as low level or soft lasers ( no more than a light bulb). They have been used in the medical field for treatment of damaged tissue, pain relief, non-healing ulceration and increasingly for acupuncture point stimulation. It has been used internationally for over 10 years in quit smoking, weight control and stress management.

Smoking cessation is the process of discontinuing tobacco smoking. Tobacco contains nicotine which is addictive. Smoking cessation can be achieved with or without assistance from healthcare professionals or the use of medications. There are several methods that have been found to be effective, medications including nicotine replacement therapy ( NRT), individual and group counselling, hypnotherapy and  Laser therapy.

It has been proved to be far more effective than ordinary treatments with success rates of around 80%. It is common for ex-smokers to have tried several times and methods unsuccessfully .Like thousands of previous patients you will be amazed at how easily you can stop smoking with the help of laser therapy, no matter how many cigarettes you smoke and for how long you have been smoking.

What Is Addiction To Cigarettes

To understand the laser system you need to understand the mechanism of substance addiction. When you smoke a cigarette it boosts your endorphin levels, these are the natural body chemicals that have a calming, relaxing effect, the feel good hormones. However the  levels drop off after a couple of hours producing a craving, when you have another cigarette the endorphin levels go up and you feel satisfied again. When you stop smoking, it is primarily the sudden drop in endorphin levels that leads to withdrawal symptoms and physical cravings.

How Laser Works

Laser therapy is entirely safe and pain free, suitable for everyone with no contra-indications. A soft laser beam applied to specific acupuncture points on the ears, face and hands, stimulates the production of endorphins. The endorphin levels produced in this way stay at a high level for a number of days. Laser therapy will help relieve you of cravings as well as helping with stress reduction and lung detoxification. The treatment gives you a natural high with sense of wellbeing. Some clients may feel a little light headache an d drowsy, but these symptoms are very temporary. You should have no cravings for nicotine, the physical cravings will be gone. We encourage the client to change your life routine for the first few days in such a way as keeping away from stress as much as possible and away from places where there is smoking. We advise an increase of consumption of water and vitamin C rich juices.

Treatment Program

On the first day you will receive a consultation about the mechanism of our quit smoking treatment and measurement of your CO level with a breath carbon monoxide monitor. Carbon monoxide concentration in breath has been shown to be directly correlated with the CO concentration in blood, known as percent carboxyhemoglobin. Followed by your first laser treatment and a set of instructions on ideas, behaviors and thoughts that should be followed during the course of treatment to protect you from returning to smoke and thereby the program.

During the following two days you’ll receive two relaxing laser treatments, as well as review your progress. All the treatments are private and confidential and will be carried out by fully trained therapists.

Feel The Difference

Most of the clients will notice how easy and affordable the program is. They feel very relaxed, leading to a good psychological mood and the desire to sleep at the first 24 hours, the following days they will feel improvement of physical fitness due to carbon monoxide clearance and increase of tissue oxygenation.

One Week  From Quitting, Facts:

From 1 to 9 months: coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath decreases .Cilia re-grow in lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucous, cleans lungs and reduces infection and body overall energy increase. Good appetite, which indicates the withdrawal of nicotine from the body.

1 year risk of heart disease decreases by 90%;

10-15 Years risk of lung cancer will be roughly the same as if you have never smoked.

There are a great variety of methods for weight loss such as: drugs; supplements to decrease appetite, block fat absorption or even reduce stomach volume. Bariatric surgery may me indicated in cases of severe obsesity, either gastric bypass or gastric banding, both are effective on limiting the food intake by reducing the size of the stomach. Low Level Laser for weight loss is an alternative option that is designed to fit the lifestyle of the clients. Laser Light can be described as a moving electromagnetic field and its electromagnetic action on specific acupuncture points responding to a variety of stimulation methods. An important property of laser beam is the ability to carry information. Laser therapy is entirely safe and pain-free, a soft laser beam, applies to specific energy points of your body, stimulates the body’s production of endorphins- natural body chemicals that have a relaxing, calming effect leading to overall satisfaction feeling, These trigger points are in fact acupuncture points, that respond to very low level of laser than is required for the tissue effects, allowing for maximum effect using the least input, which is a basic aim of all physical therapy. This feeling of well-being  and satisfaction controls the hunger picks and induce early satiety leading to loss of appetite. Overtime it can  change the relationship with food and the amount of food consumed.

Low Level Therapy – Stress Management

Stress is the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure.

Pressure turns into stress when you feel unable to cope. People have different ways of reacting to stress, so a situation that feels stressful to one person may be motivating to someone else. Many of life’s demands can cause stress, particularly work, relationships and money problems. And, when you feel stressed, it can get in the way of sorting out these demands, or can even affect everything you do.

Stress can affect how you feel, think, behave and how your body works. In fact, common signs of stress include sleeping problems, sweating, loss of appetite and difficulty concentrating. You may feel anxious, irritable or low in self esteem, and you may have racing thoughts, worry constantly or go over things in your head. You may notice that you lose your temper more easily, drink more or act unreasonably.

You may also experience headaches, muscle tension or pain, or dizziness.

Stress causes a surge of hormones in your body. These stress hormones are released to enable you to deal with pressures or threats – the so-called “fight or flight” response. Once the pressure or threat has passed, your stress hormone levels will usually return to normal. However, if you’re constantly under stress, these hormones will remain in your body, leading to the symptoms of stress.

Stress is not an illness itself, but it can cause serious illness if it isn’t addressed. It’s important to recognise the symptoms of stress early. Recognising the signs and symptoms of stress will help you figure out ways of coping and save you from adopting unhealthy coping methods, such as drinking or smoking. Spotting the early signs of stress will also help prevent it getting worse and potentially causing serious complications, such as high blood pressure.

There is little you can do to prevent stress, but there are many things you can do to manage stress more effectively, such as learning how to relax, taking regular exercise and adopting good time-management techniques.

How Low Level Laser Works

There are several proven methods to allow an individual to cope with stress, however there is no quick fix cure for stress and no single method will work for everyone. Understanding the triggers that are causing the stress and be able to deal with them is the key point for stress management. Either by keeping a stress diary monitoring the stress rating ( 0-10 where 10 is the most stressful you could ever feel), seeking professional help, exercising, going away on holiday, work out how to operate under pressure and develop better coping mechanisms.

This feeling of well-being and satisfaction controls the stress picks and allows you to be in control of the stress which on the long run enables you to cope with it.

What To Expect

A thorough consultation is done assessing the stress triggers and how to manage them. The program consists of one single session. This assists clients in controlling the stress by recognising that is all about management and lifestyle improvement. There are no reported side effects. Following the treatment client will feel relaxed and in control. All the treatments are private and confidential and will be carried out by fully trained therapists.

Who Is Suitable

Everyone that is suffering from symptoms of stress. Is an alternative and very effective therapy with no side effects.

DSC_8578

Removing the body hair is a huge challenge for both for Women and Men. There are several methods to do so, all time consuming, expensive on the long run and not permanent, people have to constantly do it, it can irritate the skin and induce ingrown hairs that can lead to cysts, boils and infection. Laser Hair Removal offers a permanent up to 80% reduction results, available to all skin types. The treatments are affordable, quick and with minimal discomfort, so why wait?

Fotona Nd:Yag Laser Hair Removal

Nd:Yag is a state solid laser Wavelength 1064nm, that effectively and permanently reduces hair for all parts of the body and suitable for all skin types. Since mid-1190’s, laser hair removal has become the Gold standard in hair treatments. It can be achieved in two different ways: selective photothermolysis and homogeneous phothermolosys. The principle of photothermolysis is based on a selective thermal destruction of a pigmented target when sufficient energy is absorbed by the target. Because of the competition between melanin in the skin and in the hair to absorb the laser energy, which may lead to hyper or hypopigmentation, or burns, selective photothermolysis is not the ideal method for darker skins. Homogeneous phothermolysis is based on the fact that laser energy acts on a certain tissue volume homogeneously. Rapidly dividing cells with high cellular metabolism are the first to be affected by absorbed laser energy. The hair bulb cells in the anagen phase (period of active stable growth) have a high metabolic rate and are much more sensitive to heat. Surrounding tissue is preserved, while at the same time, hair follicles are irreversible destroyed. Due to the very low absorption in melanin, competition between skin and hair is less, much more suitable for darker skins. Fotona’s Nd:Yag lasers treatment principle is based on both selective and homogeneous phothermolysis. This laser source has the depth of penetration necessary to reach even the deepest hair follicles causing any collateral damage to the skin. The 1064nm wavelength of the Nd:Yag primarily targets hemoglobin, targeting the blood flow in the base of hair follicles. Because of the minimal hemoglobin in the skin, collateral damage is reduced and insignificant.

Hair Growth Cycle

Human Hairs Grows In A Continuous Cycle Pattern, Which Includes The Anagen ( Is A Period Active Stable Growth,High Metabolic Activity, Rapid Bulb Matrix Cell Division And Differentiation), Catagen ( Is A Brief Period Of 2-4 Weeks Of Hair Follicle Degradation Preceding The Resting Period) And Telogen ( Period Of Complete Inactivity, Lasting 2-5 Months) Phases. The Duration Of Each Phase Depends On The Body Area. The Difference In Duration Of A Certain Phase Related To The Hair Location In The Human Body May Be Significant- Few Weeks To Months. The Amount Of Body Hair Can Be Influenced By Hormonal Disturbances Such As Polycystic Ovary Syndrome That Causes Overgrowth Or Hirsutism. Who Can Be Treated And Where

Women and Men above 18 years old. Not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Not suitable for blonde and grey hairs because of the lack of Melanin. The Fotona Nd:Yag laser hair removal is safe all body areas and skin types. The results depend on type of hair, laser treatment parameters, number of treatments and treatments schedule. We strongly advise the client to respect the treatment intervals to have the best possible outcome. Extra care should be taken with clients that are taking photosensitizing drugs such as: acne medications; Anticancer drugs; Antidepressants; Antihistamines and Antipsychotic drugs. These medications may cause hyperpigmentation, dermatitis and increase skin sensitivity on area treated. It is advised to test the skin first.

How Many Treatments Are Necessary And How Long Does Each Treatment Take

We recommend a course of 5 treatments every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the body area treated. The duration of each session depends on area treated, it can vary from 5 minutes to 2 hours, however Fotona has the largest spot size available that allows large areas to be treated fairly quickly and comfortably. As the treatments progress the amount of treated hair diminishes and therefor the sessions will become quicker. Maintenance treatments are recommended for long lasting results. A test patch is not needed as Fotona Nd:Yag treats all skin types, but is available upon clients request. All pre and post advice care is fully explained during your Free Consultation.

What To Expect

Laser treatments not only destroy the follicles but also the growth dynamics through growth delay. With repeated treatments hair cycles are synchronized increasing the effectiveness with each consecutive treatment Immediately after the treatment skin may appear red and sensitive. This is only temporary. Hairs that have been treated with laser will look frizzled; they will continue growing and will fall off 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment. Clients are only allowed to shave in between treatments to manage the hairs.

How Long Does It Last

The hair reduction is permanent, however it depends on each individual’s amount of hair, hair type, skin type and hair color. With repeated treatments hair cycles are synchronized increasing the effectiveness with each consecutive treatment Hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovaries syndrome can influence the results of the treatments. Maintenance treatments are highly advised to maintain the results achieved, there can vary from one to three treatments yearly.

Is It Painful?

The treatment is not painful, but a slight warming sensation can be felt. For sensitive areas we use topical anesthetic cream 1 hour prior the Laser treatment. In order to minimize skin heating and to reduce the likelihood of skin reactions , it is important to cool the skin before and after the treatment. The cold air cooling method during the treatment protects the epidermis from overheating and minimizes pain and discomfort. The cooling cold air system cools the epidermis before during and after laser energy without interfering with the laser beam.

Pre Treatment Advice

A medical history is taken at consultation, we rely on the Client to inform us for may changes to this. We need to know of any medication you are taking both prescribed and over the counter.

Avoid taking aspirin, anti- inflammatories or any other blood thinning drugs.

Avoid waxing and plucking for at least one month before the treatment. We advise clients to shave four days before the laser appointment. Hairs should be visible and the ideal length is 1to 2mm.
